Making a difference

As a responsible travel company, Moksha Stories believe in the coexistence of our natural environment, its indigenous communities, their diverse cultures, traditions, languages, etc. We are for sustainable development by reducing inequality as much as possible and thus making an impact. We welcome everyone to be a part of us in all possible manners and together we can make a difference.

Resolutely Rural

We craft our circuits on predominantly beautiful rural landscapes which are surprisingly invisible on the current day tourism map. These villages constitute a remarkable cultural landscape, thanks to their biodiversity. We focus on building a strategic infusion of tourism in these areas which would bring economic augmentation and preservation of culture.

" We focus on building a strategic infusion of tourism in these areas which would bring economic augmentation and preservation of culture."

Villages that form civilizations
  • Villages were always considered the cradle of any civilization. Thanks to the pursuit of fertile lands.
  • They always hosted a plethora of cultures; even great nations trace their legacy to the rural traditions of their land.
  • Through the millennium of human activities in villages, numerous storytelling traditions evolved.
  • As a travel company, we want our guests to experience these less-known villages and their cultures, stories, etc whose practices are ecologically sustainable.
Communities of the land
  • Most of the communities of any land are either indigenous to the area or migrated with purpose.
  • We associate with 200 + communities at the grass-root level. Thanks to our extensive research that helped us to bond with them.
  • We developed events and experiences with these communities; this helped us gain their trust and opened a gateway of possibilities for them.
  • Our guests cherish the opportunity for a cultural exchange with these communities and to learn something new and authentic.
Stories that sparked life for a travel company
  • We draw our inspiration from these vivacious stories and curate experiences revolving around them.
  • By infusing our creativity and knowledge of the land, we developed circuits that are unique and create unforgettable experiences for everyone.
  • To this day, we take pride in having conducted events like Mud Fest, My Cycle & Canal Stories, etc, and curate bespoke experiences for more than 85 groups.
  • Such events and tours shaped the perspective of our communities; transforming them holistically with the power of tourism.

Human in Scale

These are humans who have thrived in the wonderful nuances of rural life. Their stories are equipped with one-of-a-kind revelations of truths and insights. Our empathetic and culturally curious guests cherish engaging in meaningful encounters with our storytellers and are always delighted about the connections that are formed.

We aim to promote responsible tourism in North Kerala.

" We weave stories of these humans to create rich tapestries; each one of a kind that reveals wonderful human truths and insights."

Why do Humans Matter?
  • Over generations of human settlements, every culture has accumulated pearls of wisdom in various degrees.
  • Any myths, rituals, festivals or artforms, folklores, fairy tales, etc are all stories in various forms that shed light on these knowledge sources.
  • Through stories human beings connect and indulge in meaningful dialogues.
  • It is imperative that we share such knowledge and make our world a better place.
A Saga of Unsung Heroes
  • As part of our extensive research, we discovered communities or people who are talented, much less privileged.
  • The insights of our research also revealed that these communities and individuals are in abundance around us and mostly remain unnoticed.
  • Our mission was to associate and develop a framework that unfolds their stories through our experiences- Our Unsung Heroes.
  • Hence different experiences blossomed- Food trails, Community trails, Musical Trails, etc.
A storyteller amongst Us
  • Our storytellers are normal human beings who are present in every walk of life.
  • Our partners are people whose lives we know; the magic of which we are aware; craftsmen, artists, farmers, activists, teachers, healers, weavers, Magicians, etc.
  • Through immersive experiences like musical trails, food trails, dance, and theatre trails we depict their stories and life.
  • We believe that tourism is a force for good if it operates at a human scale where an individual or a small group of individuals are able to connect, converse, share and exchange

A Cultural Symbiosis

We believe in the incredible vibrancy of our culture, in the limitless creativity of our communities, and in the goodness that is inherent to our ways. Using tourism as an instrument, we unearth such wonderful synergy of our heritages. Through our experiences, our guests become ambassadors who carry such stories along with them wherever they travel.

Palakkad is the cultural capital of Kerala's artforms and dances

" We believe in the incredible vibrancy of our culture, in the limitless creativity of our communities, in the goodness that is inherent to our ways."

The richness of Natural Heritage
  • Natural heritages are collective components of nature that are not created by humans.
  • They are anything of aesthetic, ecological, biotic, or economic value.
  • We recognize that these heritages have a direct impact on our cultures and tradition.
  • Local communities and landscapes we indulge in are also part of our natural heritage.
  • We emphasize curating experiences that sustain the equilibrium of these heritages.
Our tangible & Intangible Heritages
  • The regions we interfere with nurture treasures of tangible and intangible heritages.
  • Our research and documentation projects opened a pandora box of such unfamiliar heritages to the outside world.
  • Collectively we discovered 100+ cultural practices, oral traditions, language, dance, music, folklores, and dramas that became our intangible resources.
  • Thanks to the agrarian sect, whose contribution influenced architecture, artifacts, and monuments that form our tangible heritage.
  • These heritages are now our pillars in delivering experiences for our guests.
Our Cultural DNA of creativity and imagination
  • Beyond traveling to a destination, we want to add value for our guests by providing experiences that they can cherish for their lifetime.
  • Thanks to our cultural DNA of creativity and imagination, which inspired in curating more than 85 bespoke experiences.
  • Our tours offer valuable moments for our guests in the form of cultural exchange, knowledge sharing, and forming meaningful connections with our communities.
  • Our insights prove that our guests are mostly inclined towards such experiences.

Yesterday Meets Tomorrow

We focus on creating a cultural atheneum that would serve to gain knowledge for the upcoming generations and our guests. Through these projects, we aim to archive traditions and practices that are disappearing. This also serves as a means to curate experiences and provide immersions to our guests.

Moksha Stories periodically document dying artforms and folklore of Kerala

" We document and archive different folk-art forms, culinary traditions, craft practices, oral traditions, etc and we see this aspect as the greatest gain of our work."

Our Documentation Projects
  • Digital documentation of over two dozen folk artforms and the legacies of their key practitioners.
  • We record and archive folk art forms, craft traditions, and culinary practices.
  • We have sustained a focus on documenting cultural and agricultural practices wherever possible.
  • In fact, we see this as the greatest gain of our work.
Grassroot programs for the younger generation
  • Jignasa, a grassroots level program for the young generation especially in the rural areas is one of our core strengths and differentiator.
  • This immersive life skills and cultural skills training for young adults touches upon nature awareness, ecological responsibility, aesthetics, citizenship values, etc.
  • A few participants become young ambassadors with us to avail on-job opportunities for cultural exchange and to develop communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • A residual gain has been the deep grassroots level connections it has enabled that feed into the curating of our experiences
Our Conservation Projects
  • Created a culinary map of the region to preserve heirloom recipes hand in hand with communities.
  • Archiving fading artforms, oral traditions, cultural practices, etc.
  • We developed unique regional souvenirs that draw upon local craft traditions and contemporary design skills.
  • Influence the development of 5+ heritage homes to homestays that reflect traditional architecture and lifestyle and thereby protecting the centuries’ old structure without tampering with its importance.

Being Sustainable

We understand that ‘being sustainable’ is the need of the hour. The epicenter of our curated experiences connects biosphere reserves, villages of any land, and its cultural practices. This very nature of our experiences requires Moksha Stories as a team to indulge in practices that are sustainable for our communities and the environment alike.

We curate our tours in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals

" As a responsible travel company, predominantly our effort is to create a platform for our local partners and communities to ensure their social and economic upliftment."

Why Regeneration?
  • Because anything regenerated is sustainable too.
  • Our efforts extend to reviving fading customs, traditions, and heritage homes.
  • These projects are in alignment with the ethos of the region, communities, and their traditions.
  • Such projects not only enhance our guest experience but also allows them to immerse into the lifestyle of a region.
  • We also work as advisories and helped in the restoration of heritage homes like Mankav Kalam, Meenikode Kalam, etc with the help of local craftsmen and artisans.
Why does Equity matter?
  • The storytellers we associate with are individuals from predominantly rural areas, notably women and the elderly.
  • Many exhibits extraordinary skills and talent, thanks to their lifestyle, culture, and practices.
  • They remain unseen and not have been presented with opportunities that upheave them.
  • Through our itineraries, we envision a venue to showcase their work and stories.
  • This not only provides them opportunities but also boosts their morale.
Spectrum of Stories
  • We believe stories have the power to change the world.
  • No matter which part of the world you are in, stories exist.
  • Our mission is to present inspiring stories of our communities, artisans, villages, etc, whose practices have been sustainable.
  • Our travelers gain access to learn and exchange knowledge with our communities.
  • These interactions upheave and influence the socio-economic factors of the communities.
